I Hope all of my American friends enjoyed a wonderful Thanksgiving!
I’ve been working on a few Christmas projects as I begin to” Deck the Halls”
I started by redoing my Christmas “buckets”, these were a real favorite from last Christmas and I still get questions/comments about them. I’ve changed them up a bit this year!
This year I’ve used bigger oval galvanized buckets. They’re new so a little shinier than I wanted but I love the shape. If anyone knows how to weather these up a bit I would love to know.
This is one of the two buckets that flanked the fireplace from last year.
This year I filled them with birch, pinecones, and mercury glass which is what I’ll be using for all my decorating this Christmas.
I also added some cinammon sticks wrapped in brown satin ribbon and this lovely faux white pointsettia flower.
The twig lights add a lot of sparkle.
Many people have asked where to get these lights and I’m sorry to say that I don’t know. I got them from a booth at a Christmas show last year and unfortunately they did not sell them this year. One reader said they’ve seen them on Amazon. I’ve seen something similar at garden centers as well as the home depot.
They look so pretty flanking the fireplace all lit up!

Wow, I really like that! I had seen some nice silver buckets the other day that I really liked and wondered what I would ever do with one. Now I know! I agree, just a little bit of greenery will be the perfect touch.

I didn't think it was possible to be in love with Christmas decorations but it's happened to me 🙂 I was inspired by your decorations from last and have been itching since August to try them. Kim – your buckets are so pretty! GREAT job on them! I think that you can age that shininess by soaking your tubs in a large tub (or sink) of vinegar for a few hours. Worth a try! 🙂

I am going on Amazon to look for those lights, they are so pretty. I love nature inspired Xmas decorating. I use tons of it here, I live in the country so there is tons of it available for the taking. Love the buckets.

All the elements you used, the birch, mercury glass, pinecones, etc, are my favorite things to decorate with thru the seasons! Love the way you put them together in those cool buckets!

Kim hi, Had bucket almost exactly like yours and weathered it perfectly. this is what you have to do: spray or rub it with Muriatic acid (very strong and corrosive so be sure to wear mask, gloves and do it outside!) this is the only thing that will take off the shininess. Vinegar won't work. Then you can rub or spray with a salt water solution and leave outside for a day or two to rust it. I can send you a photo of how mine turned out if you want. Thx to John Dugan who posted this method on the net. It works.

Those are GORGEOUS! I love everything about them, the birch logs, the pine cones, the twinkle lights the silver and white mixed in. Totally yummy… what i want to know is where is everyone finding birch logs???! They're wonderful…

Your fireplace bucket is so amazing that I had to replicate it for my own home. I walk by it everyday and just love it's rustic elegance. Thank you so much for the inspiration for the beautiful piece.
